A Wonderful Start to Year 6!
What an incredible first half of the autumn term it has been for our Year 6 pupils! They have embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm and maturity, making us extremely proud of their efforts and achievements. September brought glorious weather and an unforgettable trip to the Isle of Wight! Our Year 6 pupils enjoyed sea, sand, and sunshine as they explored this beautiful island. The trip provided wonderful opportunities for team building, independence, and creating lasting memories with their classmates – the perfect way to begin their final year at primary school.
This term has seen the exciting launch of our weekly puppet workshops with the theatre company YPPT (Young People's Puppet Theatre). Pupils have been working with scripts and designing their own puppets in preparation for Shakespearean performances planned for the summer term. The children's creativity and attention to detail have been remarkable, and we cannot wait to see their finished productions!
In English, we have been immersed in Michael Morpurgo's moving novel 'Friend or Foe'. This beautifully written story has captivated the children and links perfectly with our History curriculum. The pupils have explored themes of friendship, loyalty, and courage whilst developing their comprehension and analytical skills. Our History topic this term has focused on World War Two, bringing this pivotal period to life through various activities and discussions. The link with 'Friend or Foe' has helped deepen the children's understanding of what life was like for evacuees and families during wartime Britain.
Our budding scientists have been investigating the fascinating world of microorganisms! The children have designed and set up an experiment to discover the best conditions for growing mould. We'll be eagerly checking the results after half term – who knows what we might find!
We look forward to more exciting learning adventures in the second half of the term!
