The Arts encompass visual art, literary arts and the performing arts – music, theatre, dance and film, among others. At Hillborough Junior School, we strongly believe that this area of the curriculum contributes heavily to the overall achievement, self-esteem and enjoyment for individuals, teams and the school as a whole.
Through the Arts we aim to motivate and challenge our learners through a creative, enjoyable and secure environment. Hillborough aims to develop thoughtful and responsible young people with high self-esteem and the skills and knowledge to succeed in life.

PERFORMING ARTS
At Hillborough, we are very keen on the performing arts. We believe that children can learn valuable speaking and listening skills and gain greatly in confidence through performing arts, and we give every child in the school an opportunity to be involved. There is a school choir that competes in lots of competitions both locally and nationally and children from all year groups are invited to audition for a place. We also have a dance club which has won many awards and trophies over the last few years. Children from different year groups take part in cheerleading and street dance routines and perform to the school and take part in competitions locally and nationally.
Each year group performs a play to the rest of the school throughout the year. Traditionally, Year 5 perform a Christmas play, Year 4 Valentines, Year 3 Easter and Year 6 create and perform an end of year production. Staff write the plays and all of the children are encouraged to take part in some way by acting, dancing, singing, or by helping with props and scenery. These performances are hugely successful and we invite parents and carers in to watch them. The children learn a great deal through working together to create a final performance and the quality of the plays shows how much effort is put in.
