We believe that maths should be fun, enjoyable and part of everyday life, as well as be challenging and provide a sense of achievement for all children. The practical aspect of maths has a high priority throughout the school as a means of developing a sound understanding of mathematical concepts, which in turn are practised, consolidated and applied.
Maths is taught daily. As a school we use a range of resources, primarily utilising forms of maths mastery in year groups 3 to 6, ensuring that the Mathematics National Curriculum is covered in depth. The teaching of mathematics is given a very high profile in line with government guidelines. In Year 4 we prepare pupils for their Multiplication Tables Check, and in Year 6 we prepare pupils for the End of Key Stage 2 Assessments. However, we want pupils to develop a love of maths that they will continue to have regardless of assessments throughout their academical lives, both when at Hillborough and when they leave.
As a school we pride ourselves on pupils' experiencing success in maths.
